The last 8 photos I submitted to TasteSpotting were declined. I was disappointed, naturally, because getting my photos accepted does wonders for my traffic. However, since the people who view TasteSpotting also view FoodGawker, where 6 of those same photos were accepted, I figured it was TasteSpotting’s loss.
When Sarah Gim, who runs TasteSpotting, spoke at Camp Blogaway last May, she was asked what her criteria was for choosing what is accepted. She answered that she couldn’t say exactly, but she knows it when she sees it. Well, it is her website after all, so she can put what she wants on it.
BUT…. There are 26 other food porn sites, that I know about, where our photos can be submitted. We don’t have to be subject to TasteSpotting’s whim. We can saturate the food porn landscape with our photos and reap the forthcoming traffic. Here’s my list:

Great list. I can definitely use it. I understand when a photo is bad but your photos are exceptional there is no reason why it should be declined other then for non photo reasons. Crazy I tell ya.

I stopped submitting to Tastespotting, they rarely accepted my images and so I figured my photography style was a no-win situation for their criteria (whatever that may be). But since then, I’ve stopped submitting to any of the image sites…I do miss the traffic but I’m at a better peace with the whole process 🙂

This is a really fantastic list, I’d not have heard of most of these sites so thank you! Tastespotting has some nice photos and all, but the one word I would use to describe their filtering process is… hypocritical. I guess that ties in with the “I know it when I see it” mentality you mentioned, different photos for different moods I suppose!
Thanks for sharing the list, and providing new channels to share photos and hopefully increase traffic. I don’t have much luck with Tastespotting and Foodgawker, hopefully I’ll be luckier with the other sites you mentioned. Thanks again!

Thanks for the list! I stopped submitting to tastespotting long time ago because it was just a waste of time. But now I’ll check some of these other sites to submit my pictures.
This is great. I get so frustrated sometimes with tastespotting, even the photos I spend my time to stage with natural light and everything still get rejected! This list helps a lot. Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to post all of these sites. I am curious, how well are you doing on all of these. My most traffic and best acceptance is Foodgawker. For the most part a hit or miss. It really depends on who gets it. Very inconsistent. Your photography is brilliantly done.

That’s indeed a long list :D. More sites to get rejected from :P. For me though, the journey has been exactly opposite. 3 out of 4 recipe submissions (each submission had 2-3 pics from same recipe) were accepted at TasteSpotting while only 1 was accepted at FoodGawker. Guess they run a lucky draw or something 😀
One more site that can go in that list is healthyaperture.com
You don’t get a lot of traffic from here but a few more clicks don’t hurt now, do they 🙂

I find that tastespotting accepts about 75% of my submissions. Foodgawker on the other hand hasn’t accepted anything since 2008. foodgazing.com excepts almost everything I submit. Thanks for the list. I’ll try out some new ones. Are there other sites that except submissions of posts that are as effective as food porn sites? I’ve tried ifoodtv and a couple of other recipe sites, but i don’t find them very effective in terms of exposure

I have no idea as to why Tastespotting would decline your recipes/pictures, given that they’ve accepted submissions for “boiled hot dogs cut to look like octopi”, or dishes that resemble the works of Sandra Lee. In any case, great job and thank you again for the list; I’ve bookmarked most of the sites now : )
I gave up on Tastespotting mainly because I had so many log in issues and site freezing. Nobody ever replied to any emails for password resets or help. I am having much more success on Foodgawker now and i will for sure look at this great list you have generously supplied. Glad to have found your blog also!

I admire your photos you are right about tastespotting and FG. I think Tastespotting has black listed me , they don’t respond to my submissions at all. Thanks for giving me other sites info.
If you don’t mind will you tell me what kind of light source do you use for photos.
I am getting low light underexposure comments for FG lately.
Hi Swathi ~ I use natural light from an east-facing sliding glass door, which I open when I shoot. The light is bounced into my room from a white building about 20 feet away. Not ideal, but that’s what I have. I set my ISO on the shade setting. I have a white 3-ring notebook that I use to bounce the light onto the dish. I would prefer a south-facing window because that is where the best light comes from. The food porn sites like our photos to be screaming with light, so I lighten my photos on Photoshop Elements. Good luck with these other food porn sites. Some of them are more forgiving than TS and FG. Lynne xo

This page is such a find! Thank you. Such great info in your article and so great to read everyone’s input. I’m very, very new at this and have much to learn. I was so upset to have only one submission to tastespotting approved out of many…and honestly, I didn’t think it was my best one. You’ve all bolstered my self esteem just reading this. I certainly plan on looking into these other sites…thanks so much!
Ugh…just submitted 4 to Foodgawker and all were rejected…even the one that tastespotting accepted! This is so frustrating!

Getting accepted with tastespotting seems to be completely random. I’ve had photos accepted with foodgawker that tastespotting rejects. Its very frustrating! Thank you for this post.

I know exactly what you mean! I find tastespotting pretty useless to be honest… maybe they are getting so strict that nobody looks at it anymore…
Almost all my photos have been rejected by tastespotting and when finally one got accepted I was expecting great traffic! No… it didn’t happen, just about 20 visits and that’s it. I find foodgawker sooo much better! Many of my rejected photos from tastespotting have been accepted on foodgawker and some of them gave me 400 visits in one day! I don’t think I will bother with tastespotting anymore to be honest. Great post by the way 😉
I know what you mean about Taste Spotting- they never accept my photos, while Foodgawker usually accepts them. I’m starting to use Tasteologie and they’ve accepted some of my photos.
